The first multi-house residence worldwide using hydrogen technology as an energy storage, the ‘Phi Suea House’ is located in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. The system is the ultimate green energy storage, ideally suited for residential buildings in remote locations. Its modular concept can be adapted to numerous different situations, where complete independence from the grid is desired.
All power of the site is generated using solar panels with an installed peak capacity of 86kW. Excess power from the photovoltaics is used to power electrolysers that split water into its composite gases; where the hydrogen gas is stored in a tank. The energy storage is a hybrid battery-hydrogen system. The bulk of the nightly demand is covered by the fuel cells using hydrogen, while the batteries help cover short peaks in demand. About 130kWh of energy can be stored in the hydrogen tank, which is enough to supply the site with 4kW of power from the fuel cells continuously for over 30 hours.
This hybrid hydrogen-battery system maximizes the advantages of both the hydrogen storage system and batteries.
It’s innovative hydrogen energy system is a central solution for community solar power and storage. We believe it is the answer to energy needs of the future, and is the optimum design that stores energy in the most effective and ecological way.
